UNDP: UNDP and Panda Green Energy Group “Youth leadership Camp for Climate Action and Clean Energy” 2017
Time:2017-06-05

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in China and Panda Green Energy Group, a leading global eco-development solutions provider, have launched in cooperation the “Youth Leadership Camp on Climate Action and Clean Energy”, a summer camp designed to engage youth on issues surrounding climate change and environment.

Climate change is a major global threat to the world economy, and continues to be the most pressing threat to environmental and socio-economic development in many countries. China has made a commitment that it will shoulder the responsibility of implementing the 2030 development agenda, which includes Sustainable development Goal 7 (SDG7), Affordable and Clean Energy.

Youth groups make up a substantial part of society and often offer a unique perspective to development challenges. UNDP acknowledges the significance of youth involvement for the achievement of both the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nation’s objectives to ensure peace and security, enable development, and protect human rights. UNDP firmly believes that the younger generation should not only be pure beneficiaries of prosperity but also key collaborators for promoting sustainable development.

UNDP China is therefore partnering with Panda Green Energy Group to help to raise young peoples’ awareness of the most critical issues faced by society, especially regarding climate change and clean energy. By providing young people with an understanding of climate change challenges from agriculture and energy, social innovation, science and technology innovation perspectives, the initiative also aims to promote stronger leadership from within youth groups for sustainable development action.

The nine-day youth summer camp is scheduled from 10-18 August at the first Panda Solar Farm in Datong County, Shanxi Province, and will bring together 50 committed Chinese-speaking youth participants, aged from 13-17 years.

The youth participants will engage in a variety of interactive camp activities and workshops covering several topics, including social innovation, science and technology innovation for development and how to scale up innovative solutions that address socio-environmental challenges. In addition, they will have a unique chance to engage directly with UN staff to learn more about international development and the UN’s work in driving action towards the SDGS. Business leaders from the renewable energy and technology sectors will also share their expertise and experiences with the participants.

Applications are still open, and we encourage young people across the world with a passion for sustainable development to apply by 25th June 2017. Click this link to access the application form: bit.ly/2slhREO
