United PV Acquires 100MW Power Plant Projects of "Top Runner Programme" in Datong, Shanxi

Hong Kong, China, 4 Aug 2015 - United Photovoltaics Group Limited (“United PV” or the “Company”, stock code: 00686.HK, whose largest shareholder is China Merchants New Energy Group “CMNE”), a leading solar power plant investor and operator in China, announced today the Company acquired the development rights of the ground-mounted power plant projects with an aggregate capacity of 100MW in Datong, Shanxi Province. 


The projects are part of National Advanced Photovoltaic Technology Demonstration Base (“Base”) in coal-mining subsidence areas in Datong, Shanxi Province. The Base is the demonstrative project of the “Top Runner Programme” of the Country’s National Energy Administration (NEA), and also the first National Advanced Photovoltaic Technology Demonstration Base which will be built as a Chinese photovoltaic new technology demonstration base, practice base of the Top Runner Programme and gathering place of advanced technology. 


The government and project specialists of Shanxi Province have comprehensively assessed United PV according to its investment ability, technical capacity, performance level, contribution to the local area, new technology, new model, etc. They finally approved the development rights of the 100MW power plant projects for United PV. 

According to the overall planning, the target aggregate capacity of the Base in 2015 is 1,000MW, including 7 power plant projects with an aggregate capacity of 100MW for each project and 5 power plant projects with an aggregate capacity of 50MW for each project, of which there will be public platform projects with an aggregate capacity of 50MW. 59 enterprises have competed for the development rights of the 12 projects. 


Besides United PV, the other 6 enterprises, including China Guodian Corporation, China General Nuclear Power Group, China Huadian Corporation, Huaneng Renewables Corporation Limited, China Three Gorges News Energy Corporation and Datong Coal Mine Group, have also acquired the development rights of the 100MW projects.

United PV will set up a testing laboratory in the Base with TÜV, a famous company in the industry, to continue to explore and promote the new model and new path for scale-development of solar power generation and industrial upgrading, making contribution to the solar power industry in the period of ‘Thirteenth five year plan’ and beyond.”
